Jazz in Barbados June 7 – 13, 2013

“Improvising musicians are musical travelers, voyagers. There is a freedom to wander the musical landscape.” Gary Burton – American jazz vibraphonist who developed the four-mallet technique for playing the vibraphone.  He is also known for pioneering fusion jazz & popularizing the duet format in jazz. A major jazz educator, Burton taught at Berklee College of Music for over 30 years.

The Project with Mylon Clarke @ Club Marina, Bridge House, Caven’s Lane, Bridgetown starting at 8pm featuring band leader & saxophonist Mylon Clarke, Shane Jones on keyboard, Jared Greaves on electric bass, and Dwayne Marshall on drums.  This instrumental quartet of young musicians plays swing, R&B, and pop.

Jazz for Father’s Day is part of an ongoing project by the Musician’s Collective, a group of serious Jazz musicians seeking to build a platform for working musicians to develop the skills of the young and talented players. This event, the 3rd in a series of concerts to date, features the exciting talents of saxophonists Romaro Greaves & Mylon Clarke, gifted trumpeter Kweku Jelani, the dynamic Ricky Aimey on bass, the Caribbean’s master guitarist Mike Sealy, along with the seasoned percussion team of Boo Rudder and Michael Wood. The second half of the show features vocalists CiCi and Lillian Lorde, Cecil Bascombe on bass with Mike and Boo completing the rhythm section.
