Jazz in Barbados April 5 – 11, 2013

Friday April 5

NEW Twilight Jazz Big Band Jazz Concert with the Detroit-Barbados Jazz Connection @ Walcott Warner Theatre, Errol Barrow Center, UWI Campus starting featuring trumpeter Marcus Belgrave and his wife, Grammy-nominated vocalist, Joan Belgrave augmented by the BCC Big Band. A free concert starting @ 7pm.

Marcus Belgrave www.marcusbelgrave.net is a jazz educator and musical director; he is the last remaining member of the original Ray Charles horn section.

JAZZ 3 & special guest @ the Waterfront Café percussionist Mario Porchetta, pianist Wendell Manson, and bassist Neil Newton. Jazz starts at 8pm. Mike Fahie, New York-based trombone player, composer, and band leader performs with Jazz3. Mike Fahe on http://www.mikefahie.com/bio.htm

Roger Gittens Quartet @ Lobster Alive on Bay Street starting at 7pm. Roger Gittens on piano, Cecil Bascombe on electric bass, Stuart Jenkins on valve trombone, and Gershon Ford on drums. Reservations are required

Jazz on the waterfront @ The Waterfront Café starting at 7:30pm with Bert ‘Panta’ Brown on piano, Ricky Aimey on electric bass, and Boo Rudder on drums

Nj30 Quartet @ The Beach House in Holetown, St. James starting at 8pm with Kirk Layne on keyboard, Marius Charlemagne on electric bass, Rashad Hinds on drums, and featuring Joseph Callendar on saxophone

Tuesday April 30   UNESCO International Jazz Day

The Barbados Jazz Society presents “Steel Pan and Ivory” with the Ebe Gilkes Trio, featuring André Forde on pan at Divi Southwinds Resort, St. Lawrence, Christ Church. Show starts at 7pm.

The program will be live streamed via internet for International Jazz Day audiences in Istanbul Turkey and worldwide. Join us and be part of the global celebration! Divi Southwinds Beach Resort, Maxwell Coast Road  7:00 p.m.
