Jazz in Barbados March 29 – April 5, 2013

“Jazz is a living music; since its beginning Jazz has expressed the feelings, dreams & hopes of the people.”  Dexter Gordon – American jazz tenor saxophonist, and one of the earliest tenor players to translate the language of bebop to the instrument.

Jazz Friday @ The Beach House in Holetown, St. James starting at 7:30pm, featuring Mike Krimholtz on piano & vocals, John Duckhouse on trombone & vocals, Cecil Bascombe on electric bass, and Tony Scrooge on drums

NEW Twilight Jazz –The Detroit-Barbados Jazz Connection; a Big Band Jazz Concert  featuring trumpeter Marcus Belgrave and his wife, Grammy-nominated vocalist, Joan Belgrave augmented by the BCC Big Band. A free concert@ the Walcott Warner Theatre, Errol Barrow Center, UWI Campus starting @ 7pm.

Marcus Belgrave www.marcusbelgrave.net is musical director and Detroit’s jazz master laureate; he is the last remaining member of the original Ray Charles horn section. This gifted trumpeter and his wife, Grammy-nominated vocalist, Joan Belgrave, conducted a series of development workshops during March, with students in the Barbados Community College Music Department through the kind sponsorship of the US Embassy.
